How to Get Motivated: 5 Steps to Success
Increase your motivation levels with these 5 simple steps.
Do you struggle to find motivation? Do you often find yourself procrastinating tasks and wasting valuable time? When you’re feeling unmotivated, it can be easy to put tasks off and find yourself rushing at the last minute.
Sound familiar? These 5 simple steps can help you to increase your motivation levels and get stuff done!
Step 1: Write down your goals
If you don’t know what you’re setting out to achieve, it can be difficult to know where to start. By writing down your goals on paper, you begin to actualise them by creating a physical note of how much work you have to do. This makes it easier to plan out how you will approach each task, and once you have clarity about what needs to be done, you’ll feel more motivated to get started.
Step 2: Ask yourself why
In order to increase your motivation levels, it’s important to remind yourself of the reason you started out in the first place. For example, if you’re putting off writing an essay, remind yourself that once you’ve finished, you’ll be one step closer to completing your course and, as a result, you’ll be more qualified! Sometimes, the most difficult tasks can be the most rewarding, and it’s important to remind yourself of the reward.
Step 3: Fuel your body
In order to feel fully motivated and ready to complete your task, you need to make sure that your body and mind have enough energy to properly function. To ensure this, staying hydrated with plenty of water and nourished with healthy foods is essential. Try to reduce your reliance on caffeinated drinks for energy, as while they can be effective in the short term, they can lead to headaches and sluggishness later. If you find yourself reaching for that energy drink or cup of coffee, try swap it for a bottle of water instead.
Step 4: Take a break!
It’s difficult to find motivation when you’re tired or fed up. Therefore, it’s important to take regular breaks while completing your task. This also means making sure you’re getting the right amount of sleep. When you’re well rested, you’re more likely to be motivated as you have enough energy to complete your tasks and get them done in a more effective and efficient way.
Step 5: Reward yourself
If you struggle to keep yourself motivated, it’s important to reward your successes and give yourself things to look forward to. For example, if you’re planning to complete a difficult task during the day, plan to do something fun in the evening - like meeting with friends or taking yourself out for a meal. This way, you’ll feel more motivated to get your task done as you know that you can relax and have fun once it’s completed.
If you follow the above steps, you’ll be sure to feel more motivated in no time!
